A principal-led firm
Octopus is led by Alvin Zhang, CPA, Registered Tax Agent, ACMA and CGMA, Justice of the Peace.
Alvin has experience across public practice, taxation, commercial finance and senior financial management, including roles with organisations such as KPMG, Qantas, Woolworths, Fairfax Media, NBCUniversal, Abbott and Nine.
This combination of tax knowledge and commercial experience allows Alvin to consider both sides of a decision:
- Is it compliant with Australian tax law?
- Does it make commercial and financial sense?
- What are the immediate and long-term consequences?
- How does it affect the wider family or business group?
As Principal, Alvin remains involved in important client relationships. He leads initial consultations, tax planning, restructuring, complex advisory work and significant business decisions. He also reviews key work prepared by the accounting team.
Clients therefore receive principal-level judgement without depending on one person to complete every part of the engagement.

We are not trying to become a high-volume tax-return practice.
Our goal is to build strong, long-term relationships with clients who value professional advice and personal service. The longer we work together, the more we understand the client’s business history, family circumstances, financial position and future plans.
That understanding allows us to provide better advice when it matters most.
We want our clients to speak with us before making an important decision, rather than only meeting after the year has ended and the decision can no longer be changed.
